These have been done for a bit but it’s the first time I’ve had more than 2 minutes to myself.
It started when I tried cleaning up some of my fiber stash. I had some little bits of stuff. I also had some bits from a day of koolaid dying. I threw them in a box, mixed them up, and ran them through the drum carder.

Then I spun them up pretty bulky. I was originally heading to the uber bulky art/novelty yarn, but it just went bulky. And thats ok.

in progress, oh look, it’s tiny’s legs! What a big helper…..

one of the moms at play group has a ball winder and umbrella swift. Now I have a swift and hands and that’s usually how I roll. My balls. I mean….. nevermind. But that day I decided to spoil myself a little and let her use her winder. Though I shouldn’t have done it AT play group, there were a LOT of fingers in my yarn and a number of unhappy critters when all the fun toys were put away. Ah, the trials of the under 3 crowd. 8-P
I can’t find my notes at this moment, but I know I spun up 4 oz- two 2 oz skeins. Neither skien yielded more than100 yrds. I did up one 2 oz skein and then realized I was going to need more if I was going to make some mittens. SO now, of course, I have extra. Maybe a hat for the baby?
I had a spinning epiphany. I’m only sharing this because my husband convinced me to, I almost feel silly about this discovery. Taking a nod from the novelty yarn folk, I plied this with sewing thread. I had some fancy green rayon machine embroidery thread kicking around here that I used. It worked REALLY well. The thread holds together those undertwisted bulky spots. And it gives you your full yardage- no splitting your yardage to ply. Nor did I max out my bobbins. I did this with another skein, picts to come, and now I’m totally hooked.
Someone please tell me that they found that useful.
So as I was finishing up the yarn, my munchkins and I decide we are going to walk to go pick up dad from the bus stop. It’s a walk through open space so tiny can play with dirt and rocks, two of her most favorite toys. Erm, it’s fall. In Colorado. It’s cold when we go get daddy. Tiny needs a hat. And mittens.

The hat pattern was from the One Skein Wonders book, with some modifications (like not reading the instructions correctly and making it too long…..). The mitten pattern is here. Tiny loves them. And they keep her warm. (as you can see we are about to go for said walk.)
And it’s time to put down all my silly projects and work on CHRISTMAS. Ok Christmas comes at the same time every single year. Why do I wait until thanksgiving to work on presents?!?!?!?!?!?!?
